Tea

Yesterday was one of those days when things planned became unplanned and instead of cycling to various places to do various things, I had time instead to stop at home, catch up on emails and drink tea.

Out of the 15 things I had down in my diary this week, 9 of them happened, 2 were cancelled, 4 were postponed and 2 things happened which no amount of planning could ever have forseen. This is a fairly normal week in Cambodia.

It can be annoying but most of the time I just go with it. It's a waste of energy getting wound up, I've found, and it's tiring enough living here anyway.

Just this week I've been aware of life accelerating. Of an underlying pressure to be busy and get out there. It's a subtle thing, especially in a place when there's so much you could be doing. So I have to watch it. And remind myself to slow down, often.

So back to yesterday... a gift of a day as it turned out. I was more tired than I realised. A lot to do with cycling all over the place in the hot sun and probably not drinking anough water. A simple thing, easily overlooked, so am glad of the reminder fairly soon into things.

And glad of tea too - a stash from the UK which is fast dwindling but, at least for now, providing moments of relief and reverence in these take-them-as-you-find-them twisty turny days.
