Pray

Just got emails from some friends who work with a group called Servants and live among a poor community in Phnom Penh. They have asked for prayers for a situation going on right now so please think of them and the families involved as you read these:

Hi friends.

I have an emergency prayer request. My local Khmer pastor's son, along with 5 other youth mostly from the area we live in, have just been taken to the prison after 5 days of detention at the police station. It has been an extremely frustrating, vexing, unjust situation where the 6 boys were wrongly accused of assault and public disorder. They were told that if they paid the bribe, they will be let off, which of course the family tried to do to save their sons. Contrary to the promise, though, they have been rounded up to be taken to the prison just outside of Phnom Penh just about half an hour ago.

We as Servants are trying to think of ways to support our community at this point, but we are also asking for your prayers in this situation. Please pray especially for the families, and the pastor's family as well… they are very very dear to us.

Hi Friends,

Today 6 young men were sent to prison for something they didn’t do. This happens fairly often in Cambodia.

The difference for us is these guys came from our neighbourhood. One is the youngest son of our local pastor, another is the nephew of a close friend. They are aged between 14-18.

Kept in police custody since Thursday, the weekend saw a drawn out court case with the prosecution submitting no evidence and demands for a lot of money from each of the boys for their release. The victim of the assault says he hasn’t seen the boys before (enough in itself to clear them in our countries?)

Today, despite money changing hands, the boys were taken to prison.

Prison in Cambodia is not a nice place….

Pray for protection for the boys… pray for their release … pray for Justice to be done..Pray for the families… pray for access to people who can help them…..Pray for us as we stand with them.

Thanks
Ruth, Dave and Servants Cambodia team
