Thamel
Thamel is the touristy bit of Kathmandu.
So there's loads of carpet shops...
...street vendors...
...busy market squares...
...rickshaws...
...and their drivers...
...puppets...
...friendly shopkeepers...
...temples, flags and Tamazipanned dogs:
Saw quite an assortment of tourists too. Some seemingly Tamazipanned. Or at least enjoying the local plant-stuff. Others dressed to kill in the latest goretex gear, limbering up for a spot of trekking or Everest ascending. Retired couples quibbling over maps and money and young women with huge backpacks being pursued by persistant guesthouse hawkers.
Fascinating but fumey. Stopped off at one point for Sophorn to get a face-mask. So it was a relief to finally sit down and enjoy some happy feasting on the traditional fare of momos (meat dumplings), daal bhaat and beer:
