Creativity
Just been reading a CNN article about the effect the civil war had on Cambodia's creativity:
"During its regime (1975-79), the Khmer Rouge banned all art, literature and music that did not praise the communist party and its leader, Pol Pot. Most performing artists, painters, doctors, lawyers and teachers were killed. People who wore glasses were identified as intellectuals and executed. Creativity was systematically crushed leaving a deep fear, still years later, that inhibits self-expression. People want to express themselves... but they're afraid."
Difficult reading but for me, very motivating too. Especially as this is Return-to-the-Space week. And time again to Be Creative in a still-healing land.
This year I want to find out more about creativity in Cambodia. About what others are doing and where and why there's freedom for creative expression. To come and go, come and go. Hang out in the Space, go out and find other spaces, come back for a while and then go again.
It's a different rhythm now. Fixed points and fluidity. Known times to be in the Space and available. And times to be out adventuring and connecting.
